Missions Spotlight

Love. Rescue. Heal

The mission of Rapha House, which is headquartered in Joplin Missouri, is to end the trafficking and sexual exploitation of children through aftercare for survivors, prevention for the vulnerable, and awareness for all. No child deserves to be trafficked. No child deserves to be sexually exploited. Rapha House’s vision is to see children living safely in communities without the threats of trafficking and exploitation. Two million children are victims of child sex trafficking each year across the globe. The number is staggering, and hard to believe. It is over a $32 billion dollar industry each year.

The work of Rapha House, which means Healing in Hebrew, was born through the vision of native Cambodian Christian leaders. The leaders had often witnessed girls disappearing from their villages to be sold or exploited. Rapha House co-founder had been working with these leaders for years. When he first hand witnessed the near trafficking of a young woman who had been sold by her parents, and heard of the hundreds and thousands of children who were being sold into slavery in Cambodia and surrounding countries, it broke his heart! Joe returned to the U.S. and shared the issue and the vision with his daughter, Stephanie Garman Freed. Together they began to pull in experts and partners with a heart to combat child slavery. In 2003 Rapha House began their safe house program for children who had been rescued from the sex trade. After more than a decade of growth, Rapha House is now an international Safe House program which has won the favor of the governments in the countries in which it works. The Rapha House model is to find native people who are qualified and passionate about combating these issues in their own countries, and equipping them to combat for the children.

The work of Rapha House has made a life-changing impact for thousands of girls. Fifteen years later, they are working in eight safe houses and prevention locations throughout Southeast Asia and Haiti.

There are several ways you can help. Prayer for this ongoing situation around the world, pray for the children who are rescued and need so much help and support, pray for the ones helping these children, for their wisdom and perseverance. You can also donate, shop at their store, or sponsor a child. Please visit their site at www.raphahouse.org for more information and to see all that they are for these precious children.
