Spending

Our investments ____________________ where our hearts truly reside.

Impact #1: Life with God impacts how we spend our __________________________.

12 So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. (Psalm 90:12; ESV)

“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

(J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. (Ephesians 5:15-17; ESV)

13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”—14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. (James 4:13-14; ESV)

15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. 17 So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. (James 4:15-17; ESV)

Impact #2: Life with God impacts how we spend our _________________________________.

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21; ESV)

Living without a budget

Carrying a spirit of discontentment

. . . for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me. (Philippians 3:11-13; ESV)

Living deep in debts

Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. (Romans 13:8; ESV)

7 The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender. (Proverbs 22:7; ESV)

18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them on the day of the wrath of the Lord. In the fire of his jealousy, all the earth shall be consumed; for a full and sudden end he will make of all the inhabitants of the earth. (Zephaniah 1:18; ESV)

Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten.Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure in the last days. (James 5:1-3; ESV)

Impact #3: Life with God impacts how we spend our _______________________________________.

17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. (1 John 2:17; ESV)
